Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping

Spital Tower, Denholm, Hawick, Scottish Borders TD9 8TB

Business Details

Campers can choose from our woodland areas, walled garden and exclusive, remote wild wood pitches or try glamping in our exclusive safari tents.

No other camp site is quite like Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping. Our 500 acres of unspoilt upland is set in the heart of the Teviot Valley's Special Landscape Area in the Scottish Borders. Each one of our wonderful camping or glamping options will give you... a memorable camping experience.

Wild Woods Glamping
Relax in nature, under canvas, looking out on beautiful views, sunsets and surrounded by nature. Come find yourself, coorie-in together beside a cosy fire, drink in the clean air and possibly find a wee adventure or two. Isolated on the slopes of Ruberslaw by hundreds of metres of woodland, our Woodland Safari Tents will give you all of this. Tucked away into their own woodland clearing like a Border Reiver’s hideout, the tents offer wild seclusion and simple but stylish cosy comfort inside. Unlike any other site our glamping is truly in the wild with no other tents in sight. All you need to bring with you is your personal luggage, towels, food and drink to enjoy during your off-grid stay.

Internally the tents are divided by wooden wall partitions into a double bedroom with king-sized bed, a bunk bedroom and a living/dining/kitchen room.Beds are freshly made up with snug bed linen and extra blankets are provided for cooler nights. The tents have a wide front verandah where you can sit quietly enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods. To the front of the tent is a fire bowl and logs are supplied daily as part of your package, you can cook on the grid provided with the fire bowl and then sit around the open camp fire in the evening until the stars come out in the dark country sky.

Service facilities are located outside the tent, in a bespoke Thunderbox pine hut. The thunderbox houses a composting loo and a sink supplied with fresh water daily for drinking, washing and washing up. These are cleaned daily

Camping - Walled Garden
We have restored the Edwardian Garden, with footpaths following the original layout, and beds full of colourful flowers and shrubs. Lawn pitches sit on terraces in the upper part of the restored garden, in the Old Orchard and on the lawns. We have small, medium, large and very large pitches - Please think of the footprint area of your tent when booking.

Camping - Woodland Pitches
We have three wild woodland sites where a group of pitches can be booked, but the sites are also suitable for single tent bookings - you might be lucky and have the wood all to yourselves! (the “really wild” pitches with their low impact requirement are not suitable for groups). The forest floor pitches are not the “lawns” that are found in the Walled Garden, but have been strimmed and raked over in preparation for use. Woodland sites are serviced by a discreetly positioned Thunderbox pine hut. These have a sink supplied with fresh water daily for drinking, washing and washing up and a composting toilet. These are cleaned daily.

So you can sit around the open camp fire in the evening, cooking and chatting, these pitches have one or twol firebowl stances. A bag of logs is supplied within the price and a top up bag of logs can be supplied daily.

Camping - Exclusive Wild Camping
Camping out on the Hill or deep in the Woods, with no-one else around, is what some people long for: solitude, self-sufficiency, time out and retreat. Isolated on the slopes of Ruberslaw by hundreds of metres of woodland or gorse and heather, we have created a very few pitches where you can set up your own camp giving you all of this. A fire bowl is provided with logs supplied daily, so you may sit around the open camp fire in the evening, cooking and chatting.

The Hub
All facilities are within easy reach. The Hub offers:

  • Under-cover "courtyard" for gathering, meeting & eating, drinking a coffee or just sorting yourself out.
  • A wonderful large open feature fireplace, with grating for your barbecue. It's a great focal point on a cool evening - fire wood available from Reception.
  • Our well stocked small shop - local sausages, burgers, bacon, eggs, milk, bread rolls, treats, Ruberslaw bags and tea towels and some things you may have forgotten. We do not have an alcohol license.
